Lagos LG Polls: APC Chairmanship Aspirant Begs for Compensation After Primary Loss

Abimbola Oladokun, a long-time chairmanship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orile Agege, has called on the party leadership—and President Bola Tinubu—to compensate her for years of loyalty and service following her latest defeat at the party's primaries.

The APC held its local government election primaries on May 10 at its state secretariat in Ikeja. For Oladokun, it was her seventh attempt at securing the party’s ticket.

"I have always been a true servant to my community and my party," she said. "Despite not holding office, I’ve been using my own truck to pack waste and clean up the community. I didn’t do it for show—I did it because I care."

In an emotional appeal on Monday, Oladokun urged President Tinubu to wade into her case and ensure that the APC leadership in Lagos State recognizes her contributions. She also pointed to the president’s previous advocacy for increased female representation in politics.

“He told party leaders to give women a chance at elective positions, but many of us lost at the primaries,” she said. “I believe I deserve to be considered for something in return for my efforts.”

Oladokun traced her political journey back to the days of the Action Congress, the APC’s predecessor. She said she remains committed to the party and ran for office only after her community encouraged her to do so based on her years of visible work.

“I’m not leaving the APC. But I am appealing to our leaders to support me in some way. I've stayed loyal all these years—not just as a woman, but as someone who has consistently put the party first,” she said.

In response, Lagos APC chairman Cornelius Ojelabi acknowledged the contributions of party members like Oladokun, urging all aspirants who didn’t make the final list to stay committed and help secure victory for the party at the polls.

“Everyone who works hard and stays committed to the APC will be recognized,” he said. “We must all head to the field and rally support for the party.”

As the local government elections draw near, party unity remains crucial—and voices like Oladokun’s continue to spotlight the challenges and resilience of grassroots politicians across Lagos.
