Lagos LG Election: 13 Secret-Oathed Badagry West Delegates Reject APC’s Vice Chairmanship Slot for Princess Oluremi Nutayi, Demand Full Chairmanship Mandate

Thirteen delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry West who claim to have taken a secret oath to vote for Princess Oluremi Nutayi Funmilayo Ajose during the May 10, 2025, party primaries have publicly rejected the vice chairmanship position offered to her. The delegates are demanding that she be declared the rightful chairmanship candidate.

The Lagos State APC election committee had announced Hon. Rauf Kayode Yemaren (popularly known as RIKAY) as the chairmanship candidate for Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA). However, the result has sparked a wave of protest across several local councils, with allegations of irregularities and imposition swirling around the process.

In a video posted on Facebook, the thirteen delegates from Badagry West said they all cast their votes for Princess Oluremi Nutayi during the primaries. Out of 25 accredited delegates from the LCDA, they claim their bloc of 13 votes was committed to her — a commitment they say was sealed with a secret oath. The delegates insist none of them broke that oath and strongly dispute the result announced by the party, which recorded zero votes for their preferred aspirant.

“We all pledged loyalty to her, and we did not betray that trust,” one delegate stated. “To now claim she got no votes at all is not only false but deeply insulting.”

Despite the protest, the Lagos APC maintained its stance, declaring RIKAY the winner and offering him the LASIEC nomination form. In an attempt at reconciliation, Princess Oluremi Nutayi was named his running mate — a gesture the delegates have firmly rejected.

Earlier today, nine of the 13 delegates, led by Hodonu File John, General Secretary of APC in Badagry West, in a live video by CityMood Badagry reaffirmed their position in a press briefing. They rejected the vice chairmanship slot as unacceptable and reiterated their call for Princess Oluremi Nutayi to be reinstated as the rightful chairmanship flagbearer.

“The vice chairmanship offer is just a Facebook post to us. It does not reflect our choice or our votes,” Hodonu said. “For peace to reign in Badagry West, Princess Oluremi must be restored as the duly elected chairmanship candidate. Thirteen out of twenty-five voted for her — she is the true winner.”

The delegates issued a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and the Appeal Committee to urgently review and reverse what they described as an injustice.

“We are peace-loving people,” Hodonu added. “But if this injustice stands, it may affect our morale and commitment ahead of 2027. We did not vote for a vice chairmanship position. We voted for a leader — for our chairperson — and we want our votes to count.”
