Just hours before the highly anticipated primary elections, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the final list of chairmanship aspirants across the state’s 57 councils, including the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
This latest list follows the conclusion of the party’s screening appeal process, which gave aspirants a chance to contest their disqualification from the initial screening held earlier in the week. The appeal process was convened to ensure fairness and transparency as the APC prepares to select its candidates for the upcoming local government elections.
Among those cleared in the revised list is Prince Seyon Akran, an aspirant for Badagry Local Government whose candidacy had sparked internal party debate. His clearance, alongside several others, is seen as a significant development in the tense run-up to the primaries.
The new comprehensive list features both aspirants who successfully scaled the appeal process and those whose appeals were unsuccessful, effectively ending their bid to contest in Saturday’s primaries.
Party sources say the release of the appeal results is part of the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and due process, aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the polls.
As political camps regroup following the updated list, attention now turns to tomorrow’s primaries, which are expected to be keenly contested across all 57 councils.
Observers are watching closely as outcomes from these primaries are expected to shape the political landscape ahead of the 2025 local government elections and beyond.
