In a heartfelt celebration that blended royalty with recognition, His Royal Majesty King Aholu Agano Toniyon I, the Aholu of Ajara Agamathen Kingdom in Badagry, marked his 62nd birthday by bestowing chieftaincy titles on two prominent media personalities for their unwavering commitment to promoting the heritage and progress of the Badagry region.
Honoured at the colourful ceremony were Mr. Zosu Solomon, Chief Executive Officer of Badagry Parrot News, and Mrs. Pentho Francis, a respected presenter with Radio Nigeria. Both recipients, proud sons and daughters of Badagry, were recognised for their years of impactful journalism and dedication to advancing the town’s cultural and socio-economic development.
“I’m filled with joy,” the monarch shared during the celebration. “Today is not just about my birthday; it’s about honouring two outstanding individuals who have consistently used their platforms to shine a light on Badagry. They are true ambassadors of our land.”
King Aholu, visibly moved by the occasion, said the decision to honour Mr. Solomon and Mrs. Francis was his way of acknowledging their service to the community — and encouraging others to follow their example.
In a brief chat with journalists, the King used the moment to remind citizens of the need for unity and patience, especially as the nation navigates a challenging economic period. He called for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting that collective endurance was crucial to long-term development.
He specifically lamented the condition of the long-stalled Toun-Ikpokia bridge, which he said has made travel within the region a nightmare.
“A trip that should take five minutes can now stretch into seven hours,” the King lamented. “We’ve spoken with the President, the Governor, and other key officials. I’m hopeful, especially with the recent approval of the Badagry Expressway, but we must also push for a South-West Development Commission to address these long-standing infrastructural needs.”
Zosu Solomon Becomes “Gbonugan” – The Image Maker
For Mr. Zosu Solomon, who now carries the chieftaincy title Gbonugan, meaning The Image Maker of Ajara Agamathen Kingdom, the honour came as a deeply meaningful surprise.
“This title is the result of years of selfless service,” he said. “The King told me, ‘Zosu, you’ve served this community well.’ I’m grateful. I encourage young people who are doing their best for Badagry — keep going. People are watching. Your time will come.”
Pentho Francis Named “Linlingan” – News Ambassador
Mrs. Pentho Francis was equally humbled by her new title, Linlingan, which translates to News Ambassador.
“I’m truly honoured. I want to tell every Badagrian — no matter your field, give it your all,” she said. “You never know who’s paying attention. Thank you, Your Royal Majesty. May your reign continue to bring peace and prosperity.”
As the celebration wrapped up, King Aholu reiterated his call for collaboration and resilience, stressing that progress in Badagry depends not just on government action but on the collective spirit of its people. Through his reign, he continues to champion improved education, job creation for youth, and stronger community welfare — all grounded in the pride of Badagry’s enduring legacy.
