2027: Seyi Makinde's Presidential Posters Flood Kano

Campaign posters promoting Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for the 2027 presidential race have begun appearing in major parts of Kano, sparking curiosity and conversation among residents.

The posters, which boldly feature Makinde’s image alongside the slogan “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027,” were spotted on Thursday in several high-traffic areas, including the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) roundabout, the Wapa area (former site of Triumph Newspaper), Dangi Flyover, and the bustling Kwari Market.

According to Daily Trust, the publicity drive is being championed by a political support group known as the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027). The group says it is mobilizing grassroots support for a possible presidential bid by the Oyo governor, particularly across Northern Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists in Kano, the group’s National Secretary, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, revealed that extensive consultations had already been held with political stakeholders nationwide.

“We’ve come together from different backgrounds and interests to support one vision—Makinde for President in 2027. This is a movement with momentum, and we’re determined to see it through,” Abdullahi said.

He added that their campaign materials—posters, handbills, billboards, and branded merchandise—are set to roll out across the North in the coming days.

“By next week, Insha Allah, you’ll see our presence in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe. After that, we’ll take the message to the South as well,” he said.

Abdullahi pointed to Governor Makinde’s track record in Oyo State as a key reason for their support, describing him as a focused and results-driven leader. “We’ve followed his work closely. His performance speaks for itself—Nigeria needs a leader like him,” he added.

The campaign has already started generating public reactions in Kano. Some residents welcome the move, while others see it as a sign that the race for 2027 is heating up earlier than expected.

“There’s nothing wrong with Makinde’s posters being here. He has every right to pursue any political ambition,” said Alhaji Ibrahim Usman at the MAKIA roundabout.

Another resident, Alhaji Abba Muhammadu, expressed support for the idea of a Makinde presidency. “From what I’ve heard about his leadership in Oyo, he could be just what Nigeria needs,” he said.

Mr. John Ezekiel, who also noticed the posters near the airport, added, “We’re watching. Let all the aspirants come out and declare their intentions. In the end, Nigerians will decide who leads the country.”

As Makinde’s image continues to pop up in more parts of Kano, it’s clear that the build-up to 2027 is already in motion—and it’s gaining attention fast.
