President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of his Federal Executive Council, resulting in the removal of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga, based on a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to the memo, the President has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Dr. Muttaqha Darma has been named Minister designate for Housing and Urban Development.
The statement directed the outgoing ministers to immediately commence and conclude all handover processes to their successors or supervising officials, with all transition activities expected to be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the decision, Akume said the changes were part of efforts to improve coordination and strengthen delivery across key sectors of the economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
He said the restructuring was aimed at enhancing synergy in governance and ensuring more effective economic outcomes for Nigerians.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation added that President Tinubu acted within his constitutional powers as provided under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
He also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours, noting that cabinet adjustments would remain a continuous process in line with governance priorities.
The statement further recalled that Taiwo Oyedele had earlier been appointed Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, while Wale Edun was among those appointed into the cabinet on August 16, 2023, before the latest reshuffle.
