It was a day of emotions, gratitude, and celebration as Hon. Onilude Segun Adeniran, Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, presided over his final Executive Council meeting, bringing his administration’s tenure to a graceful near close.
Held in a warm and dignified setting, the Valedictory Executive Council Meeting served as both a reflection on the journey so far and a moment to honour outstanding contributions within his cabinet. With a tone of fulfillment, Hon. Onilude acknowledged the shared accomplishments of his team over the years, hailing the dedication and resilience that defined his administration.
“Today, we meet as the highest decision-making body of this administration where ideas were debated, policies initiated, and programs birthed,” he said. “Whatever credit I receive, I give all glory to God and heartfelt thanks to each of you who played a vital role in this journey.”
He reserved special praise for key figures in his management team: Mrs. Olusanya Mary Abosede (Council Manager), Mr. Olugbenga Hunponu (Treasurer), and Barr. Savage Olabode (Legal Adviser), acknowledging their steady guidance and professionalism. The Chairman also described Hon. Moses Gbetogo Opa, Secretary to the Local Government, as a “loyal and meticulous team player.”
The civil service workforce wasn’t left out, as Hon. Onilude saluted the unsung heroes behind the scenes: “Though some have retired or been transferred, their contributions remain etched in the legacy of this administration.”
A notable part of the meeting was the Chairman’s glowing tribute to the women in his cabinet, including Vice Chairman Hon. Elizabeth Kappo; Education Supervisor, Mrs. Sewede Pot-Balogun; and Women Affairs Supervisor, Alhaja Risikat Padonu-Hassan.
“These women held the fort with strength and grace,” he said. “Hon. Kappo was a supportive ally, Hon. Padonu-Hassan pushed for real progress in women empowerment, and Mrs. Pot-Balogun infused education with energy and creativity. You each proved why more women deserve places in leadership.”
But the day’s biggest applause was reserved for Hon. Aromavo Bolaji Tadagbe, Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, who was named Outstanding Appointee and the administration’s “Man of the Tenure.”
Describing Aromavo as composed, mature, and deeply effective, Onilude credited him with steering the often-sensitive chieftaincy affairs with wisdom and tact. “During our tenure, seven new Kings were enthroned, traditional retreats held, and official vehicles provided for monarchs — all under his watch,” Onilude said. “Thank you, my egbon, for your friendship and meritorious service.”
The Chairman also extended appreciation to other cabinet members — Hon. Sulaimon Iroko (Works), Hon. Semako Balogun (Health), Hon. Moses Sogotho Hunyinsode (ICT), Hon. Towolawi Taiwo (Agriculture & Social Development), Hon. Oluwasegun Hunsu (Tourism), Hon. Kamorudeen Ajape (Special Duties & Intergovernmental Affairs), Hon. Abu Ajayi (Budget, Planning & Statistics), and Hon. Muyibi Ganiyu (Revenue) — commending their dedication to a “purposeful, people-oriented administration.”
As the curtains draw on this chapter of leadership in Badagry, Hon. Onilude’s final meeting was a fitting tribute to a team that, in his words, “worked not for applause, but for impact.”
