Ahead of the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially launched an Independent Campaign Group (ICG) to rally support for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates across the state.
The inauguration, which took place on Monday, saw the unveiling of campaign coordinators and volunteers covering all 57 councils and 377 wards in Lagos.
Jandor, who defected from the PDP to the APC in March 2024, said the initiative was driven by his unwavering commitment to the success of the APC and its candidates at the grassroots level.
"This campaign group is not just about politics," Jandor stated. "It’s about ensuring quality representation at the grassroots, consolidating the gains of good governance, and supporting credible leaders."
According to him, the ICG is a self-funded initiative, comprising dedicated grassroots mobilisers, loyal party members, youth volunteers, and community leaders. The group will be responsible for voter education, community engagement, and door-to-door mobilisation ahead of the polls.
The group was officially unveiled by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who praised Jandor for his continued dedication to grassroots politics.
“Jandor is a party man through and through. He doesn’t wait for titles before acting. His efforts show true loyalty to the APC,” Orelope-Adefulire said. “On behalf of the President, the Lagos State Governor, and the APC leadership, I thank you for your service and pray you live long to reap the rewards.”
The event also had in attendance APC Deputy State Chairman, Mr. Moshood Maiyegun (representing the party's State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi), as well as other notable APC figures including former PDP deputy governorship candidate, Safuratu Abdul-Kareem, and former PDP State Deputy Chairman turned APC chieftain, Chief Ola Apena.
Jandor emphasized that the campaign group—comprising 24 state apex leaders, 57 local government coordinators, and 377 ward leaders—would immediately begin outreach activities to drum up support for APC candidates across Lagos.
"This is about the future of our communities. We are going to every door, every street, every ward—because our people deserve the best at the local level," he added.
