What started as a story of hardship has turned into one of inspiration and triumph for 16-year-old Bello Jesufolahan Elijah, a young resident of Aradagun, Badagry, who has emerged as the highest JAMB scorer in the area with an astounding score of 362.

Elijah, who lives off Itoga Road near Miracle Estate, had his dreams nearly cut short when financial difficulties forced him to drop out of Lightbearers College, Aradagun, during the third term of SS3. But where others might have given up, Elijah chose to fight — and he fought hard.

“I couldn’t continue because we couldn’t afford my school fees,” Elijah said. “It was painful, especially in my final year, but I just knew I wasn’t going to let that be the end of my journey.”

Despite not being able to finish the school year formally, Elijah was still determined to sit for his WAEC exams, which he registered for through the same school. Support came in the form of one man who refused to let his brilliance go to waste — Mr. Sunday Okoye, a teacher at Lightbearers College.

“Jesufolahan had something special,” Mr. Okorie shared. “You could see the spark — his hunger to learn. I couldn’t stand by and watch that go to waste, so I started giving him tutorials on my own time.”

Mr. Okorie didn’t just stop at tutorials. He also supported Elijah financially, helping him pay for the CBT (Computer-Based Test) app — a vital tool used by JAMB candidates to prepare for the exam. Elijah not only made use of it, he dominated the app’s weekly challenges, consistently topping the leaderboard.

With relentless self-discipline and the backing of a mentor who believed in him, Elijah went on to achieve a JAMB score of 362, a feat that has now placed him among the brightest young minds in Lagos State.

In a country where access to quality education is often a struggle for many, Elijah’s story is a reminder of what can happen when talent meets opportunity — no matter how small.

“I just want to make my family proud,” Elijah said with quiet determination. “This is just the beginning.”

As his story spreads across Badagry and beyond, many are hoping that this brilliant mind will get the support he needs to continue his academic journey — and perhaps inspire a new generation of students facing similar challenges.
