2027 Elections: INEC Receives 110 Applications for New Political Party Registration — See Full List

With just under two years to Nigeria’s next general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed it has received no fewer than 110 applications from associations seeking registration as political parties.

The disclosure was made on Monday, June 23, 2025, in a press statement issued by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

“As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Prof. Yakubu said. “We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedures outlined in the law as well as our Regulations and Guidelines.”

He further confirmed that the Commission has acknowledged nearly all the applications submitted so far. “We have acknowledged all requests received except six of them received recently, which will be done before the end of the week,” the statement added.

In a bid to ensure transparency and public participation, INEC has published the full list of the 110 aspiring political associations, including their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries.

The complete list is now available on INEC’s official website and social media platforms, while physical copies were distributed during the Monday meeting.

Professor Yakubu also reminded interested groups and the public that the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Party Registration—a key document detailing the registration process—is accessible online for reference.

This surge in political interest signals a potentially crowded ballot in 2027, as more Nigerians seek alternative platforms to participate in the nation’s democratic process. However, only associations that meet the strict constitutional and legal criteria will be approved and formally recognized as political parties.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to upholding fairness, transparency, and due process in handling all registration requests.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, political observers and stakeholders will be watching closely to see which of these aspiring associations make the cut—and how their emergence may reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
