The Lagos State Government has announced the completion of 61 new roads and five bridges across the state in the last year, with four key road projects located in Badagry Local Government Area, marking a significant stride in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s push for improved infrastructure and regional equity.
Speaking at a ministerial press briefing to commemorate the second year of the Governor’s second term, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, confirmed that the state delivered 56.52 kilometers of new road infrastructure and maintained steady progress on 147 other ongoing projects statewide.
Daramola specifically highlighted the completion of four roads in Badagry: Aradagun-Mosafejo-Ilado-Imeke Road, Hospital Road (Phase II), Samuel Ekundayo Road, and Toga Road. He noted that these projects, which are now fully constructed and awaiting formal commissioning, are part of the administration’s broader effort to drive development in the state’s western corridor and improve connectivity for thousands of residents and commuters.
“These roads are not only enhancing mobility within Badagry but also strengthening access to critical services such as healthcare, education, and commerce,” Daramola said. “It’s a testament to the Governor’s commitment to ensure that no part of the state is left behind.”
The announcement comes amid what officials describe as an aggressive delivery agenda, despite global and local economic headwinds. Since December 2024 alone, Lagos has commissioned 33 road projects, while many others are in various stages of completion.
Other newly completed projects across the state include the reconstruction of the pedestrian bridge at Estate Gate in Alapere, the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye, and a host of roads in Alimosho, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Ikeja, and the Lagos Mainland.
In addition to fresh construction, Daramola said that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (PWC) has carried out maintenance interventions on over 1,000 roads covering 78 kilometers, using methods like overlay works, sectional repairs, and pothole patching. The agency has also intervened in 218 drainage channels covering 462 kilometers.
The government is also scaling up digital infrastructure through LASIMRA’s fibre duct expansion initiative. An additional 2,700 kilometers of fibre installation is underway, building on 3,000 kilometers already laid, and backed by a $22 million foreign direct investment commitment.
Looking ahead, Daramola reaffirmed the state’s plan to complete several flagship infrastructure projects, including the long-anticipated 10-lane Lagos-Badagry Expressway. This massive upgrade—spanning from Eric Moore to Okokomaiko—features service lanes, BRT corridors, and a central rail line, all aimed at transforming the regional transit experience.
He added that other major undertakings like the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge and the Eti-Osa–Lekki–Epe Expressway are progressing steadily and remain central to the state’s THEMES+ development agenda.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, according to Daramola, remains resolute in his pledge to deliver life-changing infrastructure to all corners of Lagos, promising that all ongoing projects will be completed before the end of his administration.
“Every kilometer of road, every bridge, every drainage system reflects our promise to the people,” he said. “Badagry and other communities can expect more.”
