Parent Hires Thugs to Beat up Vice Principal for Preventing Son from Cheating in WAEC Exami

A disturbing incident has rocked Complete Child Development College, Aule in Akure, Ondo State, where suspected thugs reportedly assaulted the school's Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, for preventing a student from cheating during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to a preliminary report from the Ondo State Ministry of Education, the assault stemmed from an incident that occurred on May 26. During an exam session, Mr. Rotifa caught an SS3 student with an Android phone—strictly prohibited in examination settings—and promptly seized it.

What followed was a troubling escalation. The student’s mother stormed the school the next day, angrily confronting the management over the seizure of the phone. In an effort to defuse the tension, the school’s proprietor reportedly instructed staff to return the phone to her.

The situation worsened when the student’s elder brother, a former pupil of the school, showed up and threatened Mr. Rotifa over the incident. That same afternoon, school authorities noticed a group of young men loitering around the premises and alerted the Vice Principal, who proceeded to the police station to file a report.

Two officers accompanied Mr. Rotifa in a police van in an attempt to locate and arrest the suspects. However, on their way back, the group of boys allegedly ambushed the van, forcibly removed Mr. Rotifa, and beat him up in the presence of the officers. He was later rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The school’s principal confirmed that Mr. Rotifa has since been discharged but is currently avoiding his home out of fear for his safety. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators, while security around the school has been strengthened to ensure the safety of students and staff as the WASSCE examinations continue.

The state government has condemned the incident and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
