In a move aimed at easing the financial burden of residents during the festive season, the Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has launched a special "Farmers Ileya Market" offering staple food items at heavily subsidized prices.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (popularly known as SAMOLA), is a collaboration between the Council and the Olorunda Farmers Forum. It officially opened today at the Mosafejo Town Hall, just in time for the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations.
Residents flocked to the market, where they were able to purchase essential items such as rice, beans, garri, flour, palm and vegetable oil, fresh vegetables, tomatoes, pepper, eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, melon (egusi), and other cooking essentials—at rates far below current market prices.
Speaking at the launch, Supervisor for Agriculture, Hon. Odu Abraham, praised the Chairman for his proactive leadership and focus on community welfare.
“This initiative is a shining example of people-centered governance,” Hon. Odu said. “By bringing food directly to our people at affordable rates during this festive period, our Chairman has once again demonstrated his deep concern for the daily realities of our residents.”
The Ileya Market is scheduled to run all day today, providing residents with a vital opportunity to shop for their holiday needs without breaking the bank.
With food prices continuing to rise nationwide, the SAMOLA-led administration has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the impact of economic hardship through targeted, practical interventions.
For many in Olorunda LCDA, this initiative means more than just access to food—it brings hope, dignity, and the promise of a more inclusive celebration.
