Lagos State has taken a major step forward in its quest for a more efficient and commuter-friendly transportation system with the arrival of three brand-new train sets, comprising a total of 12 coaches, for the Lagos Blue Line Rail.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the development in X, formerly Twitter post on Thursday, expressing optimism about the impact the new trains will have on daily commuting in the state.
“I’m happy to share that we have taken delivery of three brand-new train sets of 12 coaches in total for the Lagos Blue Line Rail,” the governor wrote. “This means shorter wait times and more comfortable trips for everyone using the Blue Line.”
The addition of the new train sets is expected to significantly ease congestion on the Blue Line corridor, which currently runs from Marina to Mile 2. With more coaches in service, commuters can expect improved frequency and a smoother, more reliable travel experience.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also shared updates on the ongoing extension of the Blue Line to Okokomaiko, a key part of the broader Lagos Rail Mass Transit project aimed at easing the burden on road transportation.
“We’re not stopping here,” he said. “Work is ongoing to extend the Blue Line all the way to Okokomaiko, and we’re aiming to finish that by 2026. I know it’s been a long time coming, but I truly believe we’re building something that will change how we move around this city for the better.”
He thanked Lagosians for their patience and continued faith in the project, assuring them that progress is steadily being made.
This latest delivery underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to transforming urban mobility and providing a world-class transportation system for its growing population. With the full vision of the Blue Line nearing realization, the future of commuting in Lagos is gradually becoming faster, safer, and more comfortable.
