The initiative, organized in partnership with General Hospital Badagry and the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS), will take place on May 21st and 23rd, 2025. Its mission is urgent and clear: to address the critical shortage of safe blood in local hospitals and inspire a culture of regular voluntary blood donation.
A Lifesaving Mission, Led by the Youth
At the heart of the project is Mr. Hunye Minasu Joseph, a dedicated young graduate of Lagos State University, where he studied Pharmacology, Therapeutics, and Toxicology. As Team Lead and Project Coordinator, Joseph is bringing both expertise and a deep sense of purpose to the campaign.
“We’re not just asking people to donate blood,” Joseph said. “We’re asking them to be part of something bigger — to help build a healthier, stronger Badagry where lives can be saved because we care enough to act.”
Why This Matters
Every year, countless lives are lost due to a lack of timely access to safe blood — from accident victims and surgical patients to women experiencing childbirth complications. The Badagry Blood Drive Initiative aims to change that by:
-
Replenishing the blood bank at General Hospital, Badagry
-
Encouraging safe, voluntary, and consistent blood donations
-
Educating residents, especially young people, about wellness and the power of donation
-
Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
What to Expect
The two-day event will go beyond blood donation. Participants can look forward to:
-
Community-wide donation drives
-
Health education campaigns in schools, markets, and public spaces
-
Free health screenings for all donors and attendees
-
Volunteer training to create long-term community ambassadors for health
A Call to Action
The organizers are extending a heartfelt invitation to students, youth leaders, faith-based groups, businesses, and concerned residents to support the campaign — whether by donating blood, volunteering, or simply helping to spread the word.
“This is more than a campaign,” Joseph added. “It’s a movement grounded in compassion. Every pint of blood is a gift — a lifeline for someone’s mother, child, or friend.”
