In a sweeping effort to enhance the educational landscape of Badagry Federal Constituency, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), is set to commission a series of major education projects on Monday, May 5, 2025.

The ceremony, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Mowo Community Secondary School, Osun-Egbado, Mowo, in Olorunda LCDA, will mark a milestone in the lawmaker’s drive to improve learning conditions, boost student morale, and support teachers across the constituency.

Among the projects to be unveiled are newly constructed and rehabilitated classroom blocks across several communities. These include a new block of six classrooms at Mowo Community Secondary School, a four-classroom block at Anglican Primary School in Igbanko, and a fully renovated six-classroom block at St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Mission School in Ikoga-Zebbe.

In a move to tackle sanitation challenges and improve student well-being, a 14-unit toilet facility will also be commissioned at Ansar-Ud-Deen Junior Grammar School in Badagry. The facility is expected to significantly upgrade hygiene standards for hundreds of students.

Hon. Whingan will also use the occasion to launch the Badagry School Ride—a dedicated school transportation initiative designed to address mobility challenges, especially for pupils in remote and underserved areas. The scheme is aimed at improving school attendance and easing the burden on families who struggle with daily commutes.

Further deepening his investment in education, Hon. Whingan will distribute new classroom furniture, including desks, benches, whiteboards, and chalkboards. Teachers will also receive lunchboxes to improve staff welfare. More notably, over 2,000 students from public schools in the constituency will be given free educational materials such as school bags, sandals, notebooks, scientific calculators, and other essential supplies—carefully selected to support learning and ease the financial load on parents.

The event is expected to draw prominent figures in the state’s political and educational landscape. Dignitaries slated to attend include the Lagos State APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi; the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic Education; Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Hakeem Shittu; Mr. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun; and local government leaders including Hon. Onilude Segun Adeniran (Badagry LG), Hon. Gbenu Henugbe (Badagry West LCDA), and Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (Olorunda LCDA). Also present will be party leaders and APC chairmen from across the constituency.

Hon. Whingan’s latest initiative underscores his long-term vision for Badagry—one where every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education, safe learning environments, and the tools needed to thrive.

“These efforts go beyond infrastructure,” a spokesperson from his media team said. “They represent a deep commitment to empowering the next generation and building a foundation for lasting change.”

With this latest round of projects, Hon. Whingan continues to position education at the center of his legislative priorities—sending a clear message that the future of Badagry starts with its schools.
