In a vibrant atmosphere of celebration and renewed hope, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and supporters in Ward C, Mowo-Aradagun, Olorunda LCDA, on Monday officially unveiled Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming July 12 local government elections.
The event, which took place just days after Kumayon was declared winner of the APC chairmanship primary held on Saturday, May 10, drew a large crowd of party faithful, traditional rulers, women groups, and youth supporters. The gathering was led by respected party stalwart, Alhaji Abu Akilapa, who delivered a passionate call for unity and party discipline.
“A Victory for the People” — Leaders Speak
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Alhaji Akilapa described Kumayon’s emergence as “a victory ordained by God” and a fulfillment of the long-standing aspirations of Ward C to produce the council chairman. He praised the APC primary process and urged aggrieved aspirants to accept the outcome in good faith, rally behind the party’s decision, and prioritize collective progress over personal ambition.
“Ajose is not a stranger to us,” Akilapa said. “He is a bonafide member of the APC in Olorunda who has worked diligently for the party over the years. His experience as former Vice Chairman of Badagry Local Government is a major asset that will bring meaningful development to Olorunda.”
In a subtle rebuke to dissenting voices within the party, Akilapa emphasized the importance of respecting party supremacy and warned against actions that could divide the APC ahead of the crucial elections.
Aspirants Pledge Support
One of the notable highlights of the ceremony was the public show of solidarity by fellow aspirants from Ward C. Hon. Olonde Sunday Jonathan, who had also contested in the primaries, pledged his full support to Kumayon. In a candid speech, he condemned the actions of aggrieved aspirants who have refused to accept the party’s decision, describing their conduct as “embarrassing” and counterproductive.
“This is not the time to fan the flames of division,” Olonde said. “We must come together to support our candidate and ensure the APC retains control of Olorunda LCDA. Politics of bitterness will only set us back.”
He called on all party members to prioritize unity, urging them to trust in Kumayon’s leadership and work collectively toward electoral victory in July.
“My Victory is for Everyone” — Kumayon Reaches Out
In his own remarks, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon thanked Almighty God for what he described as “a divine victory” that reflects the will of the majority. He extended an olive branch to other aspirants and urged everyone, including those still nursing grievances, to join hands with him for the growth and development of the council.
“I’m not here to divide, but to build,” Kumayon said. “I want to work with all well-meaning members of our party and community. Our future is brighter when we unite.”
He expressed deep appreciation to the leaders of Ward C, particularly Alhaji Abu Akilapa, for their unwavering support, and pledged to lead Olorunda with the fear of God, fairness, and commitment to grassroots development.
Traditional Leaders, Women, and Youths Show Solidarity
The unveiling ceremony was graced by prominent traditional rulers (Baales) from all zones of Ward C, further affirming grassroots support for Kumayon’s candidacy. Also present were key APC leaders, women mobilizers, and youth groups who turned out in large numbers to celebrate what they called a “new dawn” for the ward.
Among the other aspirants in attendance were Hon. Mrs. Adebola Oladipo and Hon. Olonde Sunday Jonathan, whose presence was hailed as a show of party loyalty and maturity.
As the July 12 local government election approaches, Monday’s event has set the tone for a unified campaign in Olorunda LCDA — one anchored on reconciliation, party discipline, and a shared vision for development.
