Lagos LG Polls: Olorunda PDP Picks Dr. Moses Ajayi as Chairmanship Candidate, Yewhenu Monday as Running Mate

As As preparations heat up for the upcoming local government elections in Lagos State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has officially unveiled its candidates. The party has selected Apostle Dr. Moses Ajayi as its chairmanship flagbearer, with Mr. Yewhenu Monday chosen as his running mate.

Dr. Ajayi hails from Ward E, Ibiye, while Mr. Monday represents Ward C, Mosafejo—the same ward from which the All Progressives Congress (APC) picked its own chairmanship candidate. This strategic selection appears to reflect both parties’ awareness of Olorunda’s multi-ethnic makeup, signaling a deliberate effort to balance local interests and foster inclusivity.

On the APC side, Hon. Mobolaji Adele Solomon has been named the vice chairmanship candidate, adding further political weight to a race that is shaping up to be highly competitive..

Dr. Ajayi, a seasoned political figure, respected grassroots mobilizer, and ordained clergy of the New Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Dr. Ajayi brings a unique blend of spiritual depth and civic experience to the contest. With over three decades of active service in Lagos State, he has pledged to lead with accountability, unity, and transformative development under the guiding theme: “Leadership That Listens, Development That Lasts.”

Born on March 6, 1967, Dr. Ajayi’s roots trace through the rich cultural tapestry of the Yoruba nation, particularly the Awori heritage of Badagry Division. Although his educational and spiritual journey spans several states, his political and community engagement has remained firmly anchored in Lagos.

A graduate of Ajoke High School in Badagry, he holds an associate degree in Criminology and Penology from the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka Yaba, along with numerous professional certifications in Human Relations, Peacekeeping, Traffic Management, Security, and Operations.

Dr. Ajayi’s political involvement began as far back as 1993 with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but he became fully aligned with the PDP in 1999, starting from Ojo Local Government. Since 2010, he has emerged as a key figure in Olorunda LCDA’s political landscape, currently undergoing restructuring into Olorunwa LCDA.

In 2023, he was appointed PDP Leader in Olorunda, serving during the general elections as the Polling Unit Agent for Unit 049, Ward E. He also chairs the Fix Nigeria Group (Lagos State Chapter), a platform championing national renewal and responsive governance

Meanwhile, the APC candidate, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, appears to be gaining momentum despite internal party tensions following the primaries. A seasoned politician, ICT expert, and former chairman of the defunct Badagry Local Government, Kumayon has already hit the ground running. He recently launched his development blueprint titled RESHAPE: The Manifesto to Reshape Olorunda, which lays out a clear and ambitious vision for the council.

The RESHAPE agenda is anchored on seven core pillars:

  • Rural Development

  • Education Advancement

  • Staff Welfare

  • Healthcare Improvement

  • Agricultural Growth

  • Physical Environmental Sanitation and Water Supply

  • Empowerment for Youths and Women

As the race for the Olorunda LCDA chairmanship intensifies, candidates like Supt. Ap. Dr. Olubobola Moses Ajayi are emphasizing grassroots-driven leadership with a focus on empowering local economies, improving education and healthcare, enhancing infrastructure, deepening community participation, and ensuring sustainable development and security. With the electorate watching closely, the upcoming election promises to be a defining moment for the future of the LCDA.”
