Lagos APC LG Election Appeals Committee Receives 104 Petitions, Fixes Timeline for Resolution

The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Appeals Committee has announced a timeline for resolving a total of 104 petitions filed by aggrieved aspirants following the party’s recently concluded local government primaries.

The committee, which was inaugurated on Monday and is chaired by the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), is currently reviewing 45 petitions from chairmanship aspirants and 59 from councillorship aspirants. These appeals stem from widespread discontent over the outcome of last Saturday’s primaries held across the state’s 57 local councils.

The primaries, conducted at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road through indirect election and consensus arrangements, were aimed at selecting APC flagbearers for the upcoming July 12 local government elections. However, the aftermath has been marred by protests in areas such as Agege, Ikeja, and Somolu, where hundreds of party members took to the streets, alleging imposition of candidates by certain party leaders.

Speaking exclusively to The PUNCH, Lagos APC spokesperson, Oluseye Oladejo, confirmed the volume of appeals the committee is now handling. “The party has received 45 chairmanship petitions and 59 councillorship petitions,” he said, adding that the committee is expected to complete its work this week.

As part of its process, the Appeals Committee had set a submission deadline of 12 p.m. on Tuesday for all aggrieved aspirants to file their petitions. With the clock ticking, all eyes are now on the panel to deliver a fair and timely resolution that will help the party move forward united ahead of the local polls.
