In a post shared Tuesday evening via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, Haramain announced:
“The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia — Dhul Hijjah 1446 begins tonight. Day of ‘Arafah: 5 June 2025, Eid Al-Adha: 6 June 2025.May Allāh accept the Hajj of the Hujjaj and our worship and allow us to make the most of these blessed days. Aameen.”
Based on the timeline released, Dhul Hijjah begins on Wednesday, May 28. The Day of Arafah, a central rite of the Hajj pilgrimage and one of the holiest days in Islam, will be observed on Thursday, June 5, followed by Eid Al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, the next day.
As is customary, Muslims in Nigeria will await an official announcement from the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, who traditionally confirms the Eid date for the country.
Eid Al-Adha is one of the most significant celebrations in Islam, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice. It also marks the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage, with millions of Muslims worldwide preparing for days of reflection, prayer, and community.
