The ancient town of Imeke in Badagry is set to burst into vibrant celebration as it prepares for the 10th coronation anniversary of its revered monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Abraham Ogabi, the Onimeke of Imeke Kingdom. The landmark occasion will span eleven days, from Saturday, May 17 to Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and promises a rich tapestry of culture, tradition, and unity.

Organizers say the festival will be one of the most significant in the kingdom’s recent history, blending spirituality, community outreach, heritage preservation, and entertainment—each day curated to reflect the values and achievements of Oba Ogabi’s decade on the throne.

A Day-by-Day Celebration of Culture and Community

Day 1: Saturday, May 17 – Official Opening
The festivities will begin at the royal palace with a press conference, where the monarch and event committee will outline the celebration’s significance. Traditional music—Gbedu and Sakara drums—will set the tone for the days ahead. Spiritual rituals and Iwure (traditional prayers) will be held to sanctify the celebration. Free medical eye screenings will also be offered, combining culture with care.

Day 2: Sunday, May 18 – Oba Ajagun Day
A tribute to the legendary warrior Oba Ajagun will take center stage. The event, beginning at 10:00 AM, will reflect on the bravery and contributions of this iconic historical figure to the growth of Imeke.

Day 3: Monday, May 19 – Reformed Ogboni Fraternity Day
The Reformed Ogboni Fraternity (ROF) will observe the day with special rites, closing with a friendly novelty football match at Anglican Primary School, Imeke—a nod to tradition and sportsmanship.

Day 4: Tuesday, May 20 – Shrine Visitations
In a spiritual journey across the kingdom, the Onimeke, chiefs, and worshippers will visit various shrines to honor the ancestors and seek blessings for the people of Imeke.

Day 5: Wednesday, May 21 – Homage and Health
Community Development Associations (CDAs), market leaders, women groups, and royal wives will pay their respects to the king. Alongside these tributes, residents will benefit from a free general medical check-up—underscoring the king’s commitment to public health.

Day 6: Thursday, May 22 – Youth Day
Youth empowerment takes the spotlight with a community marathon, empowerment programs, and more free medical services. The day emphasizes the monarch’s focus on nurturing the next generation.

Day 7: Friday, May 23 – Muslim Community Day
A day of prayers and celebration for Imeke’s Muslim faithful will showcase the religious harmony within the kingdom, with activities led by Islamic leaders and community members.

Day 8: Saturday, May 24 – Installation and Recognition
The monarch will bestow honorary and chieftaincy titles on deserving individuals. An awards ceremony will also recognize those who have made significant contributions to the kingdom's progress.

Day 9: Sunday, May 25 – Christian Community Day
Christian congregations from across the region will unite in thanksgiving and worship, celebrating peace and unity under the monarch’s reign.

Day 10: Monday, May 26 – Imeke Awori Day
Awori roots will take center stage with a cultural showcase featuring traditional dances, music, folklore, and vibrant costumes—all beginning at 10:00 PM.

Day 11: Tuesday, May 27 – Grand Finale
The celebration will draw to a grand close at the Gas Pipeline area in Imeke, where guests will be treated to musical performances, cultural exhibitions, and thrilling entertainment—a fitting climax to an unforgettable journey.

A Decade of Royal Stewardship

Oba Abraham Ogabi ascended the throne in 2015 and has since led the Imeke Kingdom with wisdom, unity, and a deep commitment to cultural preservation and community growth. His reign has been marked by peace, progress, and inclusive development—a legacy that this eleven-day celebration aims to honor.

The coronation anniversary is expected to attract dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts, and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, offering a rare glimpse into the heartbeat of Imeke’s enduring traditions.
