The Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rauf Kayode Yemaren, popularly known as RIKAY, has pledged to build on what he described as the "excellent achievements" of his boss and outgoing chairman, Hon. Gbenu Hunugbe, if elected into office.

RIKAY, who currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, made this known during a media chat with local press organisations, including Badagry Today. He commended Hon. Gbenu’s leadership over the past eight years, stating that the outgoing chairman has set a high standard that deserves to be sustained and improved upon for the benefit of the people.

"Hon. Gbenu has performed excellently in office, and I am privileged to have worked closely with him. My agenda is clear: to consolidate on the foundation he has laid and take Badagry West to greater heights,” RIKAY said.

A farmer by profession, Yemaren stated that agriculture will be a cornerstone of his administration, promising strategic initiatives to support local farmers and food production. He also highlighted key areas of focus under his leadership — including education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment through sustainable job creation, skill acquisition, and infrastructure development.

“Being a farmer myself, I understand the challenges in the sector, and I’m ready to tackle them head-on. But beyond agriculture, my government will be people-centred — from improving schools and health facilities to creating jobs and enhancing our roads and markets,” he noted.

RIKAY also expressed deep appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders for their support in his emergence as the APC flagbearer. He specifically thanked Hon. Hontonyon Joseph Bamgbose — the apex political leader in Badagry West and a former lawmaker at both state and federal levels — for his fatherly role and mentorship. He also acknowledged the incumbent chairman, Hon. Gbenu Hunugbe, for his support, and extended gratitude to all delegates who voted in the party primary.

In his remarks, RIKAY also saluted the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a “shining example of purposeful governance and progressive leadership.”

Amidst reported grievances from some aspirants over the primary election outcome, the APC candidate extended an olive branch, calling for unity and collective commitment to the development of Badagry West.

"I appeal to my fellow aspirants to put aside their differences and join hands with me. This project is not about personal ambition — it's about our people. I promise to lead an all-inclusive government, devoid of any form of sentiment or bias,” RIKAY assured.

As the council elections draw near, RIKAY's message of continuity, inclusion, and grassroots-driven development appears to be striking a chord among party faithful and constituents — setting the tone for what may be a closely-watched political journey in Badagry West.
