The Lagos State Government has announced the successful enrollment of 130,000 households for the Federal Government’s N75,000 conditional cash transfer programme, with Ikorodu emerging as the top-performing area in the registration process.
Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday in Alausa, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ope George, explained that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to cushion the impact of recent economic reforms on the most vulnerable residents of the state.
George noted that all enrolled households have had their National Identification Numbers (NINs) fully integrated into the Lagos State Single Social Register—an essential component of the broader National Social Register. This integration, he said, is a key requirement set by the Presidential Panel overseeing the relief programme.
"The Federal Government has mandated that every beneficiary must have updated records, including valid NINs and precise geo-locations. This is to ensure transparency and to eliminate fraud and duplication in the cash disbursement process," he stated.
The enrollment drive, which began on April 9, 2025, was carried out simultaneously across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos. According to George, the state’s Operation Coordinating Unit and Community-Based Targeting Teams worked diligently to meet the target within a short timeframe.
Among the LGAs, Ikorodu stood out with 16,418 households enrolled, followed by Alimosho with 14,964 and Mushin with 10,712. These areas, George noted, recorded the highest numbers, demonstrating strong community cooperation and swift response.
The conditional cash transfer is part of a broader national strategy to mitigate the financial strain caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, the unification of exchange rates, and other fiscal adjustments introduced by the Federal Government.
George assured residents that Lagos State remains committed to continuously updating the social register to include more households, ensuring no eligible family is left out of both federal and state-led interventions.
“This is just the beginning,” he said. “We will keep expanding the reach of this programme so that more Lagosians can benefit from the relief measures designed to ease their economic burdens.”
