Obi Levi Obieze Arrested in Badagry

A high-profile suspect wanted for serious crimes in Enugu State has been apprehended while attempting to flee the country through the Seme border.

The suspect, a well-known billionaire native doctor identified as Obi Levi Obieze — popularly known by his alias, Levi Obu Onyeka — was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Wednesday. He was reportedly trying to cross the border on a commercial motorcycle when he was intercepted along the Seme-Badagry road.

Obieze has been on the radar of security agencies following allegations linking him to a string of abductions, kidnappings, and ritual killings in Enugu State. Sources within law enforcement say the suspect has been evading arrest for weeks, prompting a nationwide alert.

Acting on intelligence, NIS operatives stationed at the Seme border acted swiftly when the suspect was sighted. According to witnesses, Obieze attempted to disguise his identity by blending in with local travelers using motorcycles — a common mode of transportation in the area. However, officers recognized him and moved in quickly to detain him without incident.

The arrest has been hailed as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into ritual-related crimes in Enugu and surrounding areas. Authorities say Obieze will be handed over to the Nigeria Police for further questioning and prosecution.

"This is a major arrest,” an immigration officer familiar with the operation said. “We are proud of the vigilance and coordination shown by our officers. Criminals must know that no matter how far they run, the law will catch up with them.”

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to issue a formal statement in the coming days, as investigations continue into what could be a sprawling network of criminal activity linked to the suspect.

Meanwhile, residents in both Enugu and Badagry have expressed relief, describing the arrest as a welcome development in the fight against violent crime.
