In a rare political development that signals a shift in Lagos politics, Daniel Osagie Egobi, a native of Uzeba in Edo State, has been named as the All Progressives Congress (APC) councilorship candidate for Ward K in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
Egobi’s emergence as a candidate is particularly remarkable given the traditionally strong preference for indigenous candidates in Lagos politics. His inclusion in the APC's official list of councilorship candidates, released ahead of the July 12 local government elections, is being seen as a sign of growing political inclusivity in the state.
While non-indigenes often struggle to secure political nominations in Lagos, Egobi’s candidacy breaks new ground, highlighting what some observers have described as the maturing of democracy within the state. It reflects a broader trend of embracing diversity and recognizing merit beyond ethnic lines.
“This is more than just a political nomination — it’s a message that Lagos is moving forward,” said a party source familiar with the selection process. “We’re beginning to see a Lagos where commitment, competence, and community service matter more than origin.”

Egobi, who has reportedly built strong grassroots ties in Ward K over the years, is expected to draw significant support from residents who view him as a unifying figure capable of delivering real change.
As Lagos prepares for its local government polls, all eyes will be on how voters respond to this unprecedented political step — and whether it sets the tone for a more inclusive future across the state.
