Dele Momodu Lauds President Tinubu for Overruling Wike on PDP Secretariat Closure

Prominent media mogul and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dele Momodu, has publicly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intervening in the controversial closure of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a candid and strongly-worded message shared from the United States, Momodu described Wike’s action as a "vindictive outburst" and praised President Tinubu for stepping in to halt what he called a politically charged move against the APC's main opposition party.

"I have just read the news here in America that you have stepped into the matter of your cantankerous Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who sealed the National Secretariat of the PDP… earlier today," Momodu wrote.

While acknowledging the importance of compliance with government regulations, Momodu emphasized that state power must not be used as a tool of political intimidation. He described Wike as "Nigeria’s most querulous politician" and warned that the former Rivers State governor was fast becoming a liability to the Tinubu administration.

"The decision to stop Wike today achieved several points in your favor. We used to think we have two Presidents in Nigeria—Tinubu and Wike. Now, we know Wike has a boss who can checkmate his excesses," he added.

Momodu also seized the moment to lament the political turmoil in Rivers State, accusing Wike of orchestrating disruptions in the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He suggested that President Tinubu could have prevented what he described as “an unfortunate contraption called emergency rule” by reigning in Wike earlier.

In a pointed comparison, Momodu praised Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for what he called a more disciplined and humble approach to governance, contrasting it with Wike's frequent and fiery public outbursts.

"Sir, there can’t be two captains in one ship, and I hope Wike got that message loud and clear from your powerful intervention today," Momodu concluded.

The sealing of the PDP National Secretariat had triggered widespread outrage within opposition circles, sparking concerns about political tolerance and abuse of power. President Tinubu’s reported intervention is now being viewed as a move to restore balance and reinforce democratic norms in Nigeria’s tense political climate.
