Chairmanship hopeful Hon. Babatunde Hunpe received a warm reception at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Badagry Local Government as party executives formally endorsed his ambition to lead the council.
Hunpe, a respected figure within the party and one of the frontrunners in the chairmanship race, was praised for his deep-rooted commitment to public service and decades of contributions to Badagry’s development.
Speaking at the event, APC LGA Chairman Hon. Muritala Gafar expressed full confidence in Hunpe’s leadership capacity.
“I’ve known you since your days as a Protocol Officer at LASU, through your time as a Special Adviser, and later as a federal lawmaker. Your record speaks for itself,” Gafar said. “As we consider who leads our council next, we’ll prioritize experience, loyalty, and proven capacity. And you embody those qualities.”
Adding weight to the endorsement, Hunpe’s Campaign Director General, Hon. Yahaya Lateef, highlighted the wide support his principal enjoys across the party.
“Some candidates are hard to market—even with the best PR. Hunpe is not one of them,” Lateef said. “From defending Badagrians’ admission quotas as Protocol Officer, to excelling as a Special Adviser in Lagos, and delivering key projects as a federal legislator—his impact is visible. This time, the mantle is fully his, and he’s more than ready.”
Tafa Dada, a representative of the APC Badagry LGA Apex Leaders caucus reinforced the legitimacy of Hunpe’s bid by referencing the late GAC chieftain, Hon. Akinsanya Sunny Ajose.
“Before he passed on, Baba Ajose made it clear—Hunpe was his chosen candidate,” Dada said. “He believed Hunpe had the experience and pedigree to build on Hon. Onilude’s achievements. As a loyal party man, I’m only continuing Baba’s wish by backing Hunpe’s candidacy.”
In his remarks, Hon. Hunpe expressed gratitude for the endorsement and reiterated his commitment to grassroots governance.
“I won’t pretend to be perfect, but I can boldly say that none of the other aspirants has a stronger record of service and results,” Hunpe said. “I’ve worked at both the state and federal levels, and I now want to channel that experience directly into local development. With your support, I will lead a results-driven administration that prioritizes people and progress.”
The LGA executives applauded Hunpe for his past support—both collective and personal—and pledged to stand by him as the party moves toward selecting its candidate. They urged him to uphold his high standards and tackle Badagry’s key challenges head-on if elected.
Following the visit to the party secretariat, Hunpe and his campaign team moved on to Wards G and J to continue their grassroots consultations and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
